2012-13 NJAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM ANNOUNCED

PITMAN--Montclair State University sophomore Melissa Tobie and her Red Hawk teammate junior guard Nicosia Henry have been selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year respectively for the 2012-13 season. Their selections highlighted the 15-member NJAC women’s basketball all-conference team which was announced on February 20. All selections were made via a vote of the league’s 10 head coaches.

A two-time NJAC first-team all-conference selection, Tobie garnered NJAC Player of the Year honors one season after earning the league’s Rookie of the Year selection as a freshman. A Week 11 NJAC Player of the Week honoree, Tobie currently leads the NJAC In overall field goal percentage (.516), while ranking third overall in both scoring (14.9 points per game), free throw percentage (.783) and blocks (1.3 per game). Against NJAC competition, she finished the conference season ranked first in field goal percentage (.520) and third in scoring (15.0 points per game).

A key member of a Red Hawk defense that currently leads the league in fewest points allowed per game (44.9), Henry currently ranks third in overall steals (3.9 per game), second in field goal percentage (.475) and 10th in rebounding (6.8 per game). Against league competition, the Week 10 NJAC Player of the Week honoree finished third in steals (4.1 per game), ninth in rebounding (7.3 per game), and ninth in field goal percentage (.426).

Montclair State University freshman guard Shalette Brown was tapped as the NJAC Rookie of the Year, marking the second consecutive year that a Red Hawk freshman has garnered the top first-year player honor. A nine-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, she currently ranks second in overall steals (3.9 per game), third in field goal percentage (.462), and 13th in scoring (10.3 points per game). In conference play, she finished third in both field goal percentage (.452) and steals (4.0 per game).

Montclair State University head coach Karin Harvey was selected as the NJAC Coach of the Year by her peers. In 2012-13, Harvey has guided the No. 5 ranked Red Hawks to an undefeated 25-0 regular season while winning the NJAC regular season championship with a perfect 16-0 conference record. In six seasons at the helm of the MSU program, Harvey has guided the Red Hawks to a mark of 111-50, while her overall career collegiate coaching record stands at 124-64.
