EWING—The College of New Jersey’s men’s swimming & diving team recorded a 177-122 victory over rival Rowan on January 30 to claim the 2009-10 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship. The Lion men finished their conference schedule with a perfect 4-0 record for the second consecutive season.
The victory gave the TCNJ men their fourth NJAC swimming & diving championship in league history, and their fourth straight conference crown since 1993-94. Due to a lack of institutional sport sponsorship, men’s swimming & diving was not recognized as a conference championship sport from a period of 1996 to 2008.
Since the NJAC does not sponsor a championship meet in the sport of swimming & diving, the conference championship is awarded to the team with the best record in league dual-meet competition. The Lions claimed the second consecutive title since the return of NJAC men’s swimming & diving with victories over Montclair State (154-90 on October 23), Ramapo (160-91 on October 31), William Paterson (159.5-116.5 on January 24), and Rowan (177-122 on January 30).
