UNION–-For the seventh straight year, the Kean football team participated in the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day in celebration of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Under fourth-year Head Coach Dan Garret, the Cougar football team traveled to Wayside Elementary School of Ocean Township School District on March 2, as the 15 student-athletes and four members of the coaching staff visited a total of 35 classrooms to read books by Dr. Seuss and discuss the importance of reading to the special education and pre-K through fourth grade students.
NEA launched the Read Across America program in 1997. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss, who epitomizes a love of learning. Dr. Seuss's use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful.
