NORTHBROOK, IL--Rowan defensive end Matt Hoffman was selected as a finalist for the Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team, which honors student-athletes that make a difference on and off the playing field by serving others.

Hoffman is among 112 finalists from four-year institutions at the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II and III and NAIA levels. The nominees will be voted on by a panel of former Good Works Team members and prominent college football media members. Two 11-player teams will be chosen. One squad will consist of players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and another team will be comprised of student-athletes from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, III and the NAIA.  The 22 representatives will be announced in late September.

On November 16, Hoffman donated blood stem cells as part of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). He was selected as a matching donor to help cure a 52 year-old man suffering from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Hoffman was forced to miss Rowan’s final game of the regular season because of the procedure. He signed up for the Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry through the football team’s Get in the Game. Save a Life. drive in the spring of 2009. Hoffman joined his teammates in registering potential bone marrow donors during the event.

Last year, Hoffman led the Profs with 6.5 sacks (-37 yards). He was second on the team with 12.0 tackles for a loss (-49 yards) and fourth with 42 tackles (20 solo, 22 assisted). In the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), he ranked sixth in sacks and eighth in tackles for a loss. He was named to the All-Conference second team. Hoffman received the Touchdown Club of Southern New Jersey Person of the Year award.

He is majoring in health and exercise science with a 3.237 grade point average. This season, Hoffman collected Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team honors. He also earned NJAC All-Academic honorable mention and was a Rowan Scholar-Athlete
