Talley, Bacon Earn ECAC Division III Metro Major Awards

DANBURY, CT – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division III Metro Women’s Basketball All-ECAC selections and major award winners. 

Kamari Talley from Rutgers University – Camden collected the honor for ECAC Player of the Year, while Kean University’s Marajiah Bacon was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year. Jamie Angeli, head coach for the City College of New York, rounded out the major awards with the ECAC Coach of the Year accolade.

Player of the Year
Kamari Talley - Rutgers University – Camden (NJAC) Senior, Forward

Talley claims the 2016 ECAC DIII Metro Women’s Basketball Player of the Year award after averaging a double-double in 2015-16. The senior led the Raptors with 21.2 points and 13.6 rebounds per game in 21 contests during the regular-season while shooting at 42.8 percent from the floor. A three-time ECAC DIII Metro Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, Talley also recently named the D3hoops.com Atlantic Region Co-Player of the Year.

Rookie of the Year
Marajiah Bacon – Kean University (NJAC) Freshman, Guard

Bacon earns top rookie honors after a remarkable freshman season for Kean that saw her earn NJAC Rookie of the Year honors as well. Bacon appeared in all 25 regular-season games for Cougars, averaging 24.2 points per game to lead all DIII women’s basketball players. The guard scored in double digits in every game in which she appeared, and broke the 30-point mark on six occasions in the regular season. Bacon was an ECAC Rookie of the Week selection on 10 occasions in 2015-16, and recently claimed the D3hoops.com Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year Award.

Coach of the Year
Jamie Angeli – City College of New York (CUNYAC)

Angeli takes home the Coach of the Year accolade after overseeing a remarkable turnaround from the 2014-15 campaign. After compiling a 5-20 regular-season record last year, CCNY finished the regular season with a 16-9 mark, its first season with a winning record since 2002-03.
